Trampolines in InGaP

We finally managed to fabricate high-Q trampoline micromechanical resonators in the crystalline material InGaP. Thanks to the hard work of Sushanth, Anastasiia and Fia and the material supplied by the group of André Strittmatter from Magdeburg. You find the results here on arXiv:2211.12469 [physics.app-ph].

The exciting journey continues towards fully integrated free-space cavity optomechanics on a chip.

Microparticles fly in the dark

Have a look at our recent work arxiv.org/abs/2210.13451 We can now levitate micrometer-sized particles in the dark fully on chip inside of a dilution refrigerator. A small step for developing a novel platform for making quantum experiments with more massive objects possible. Thanks to the hard work of the team: first and foremost Martí, Gerard and Achintya. Thanks you Thilo, who taught us how to use SQUIDs!

EU project SuperMeQ started

On Oct 1st the EU project SuperMeQ started. It will last for 4 years and its goal is to generate nonclassical states in the center-of-mass motion of mechanical resonators, both clamped and levitated. We look forward to join our expertise with the groups of Hans Huebl (WMI Garching), Gerhard Kirchmair (IQOQI Innsbruck), Markus Aspelmeyer and Michi Trupke (IQOQI Vienna), Anja Metelmann (KIT Karlsruhe) and Àlvar Sanchez and Carles Navau (UAB Barcelona).

Welcome Fabian!

Fabian has joined our team as a PhD student. He will research on our magnetic levitation platform with the goal to generate a squeezed state of the center-of-mass motion of a levitated particle. That would be fantastic! His research project is performed in the frame of the EU Horizon Europe project SuperMeQ, which has started Oct 1st.
